It does not matter if you have had your Vintage BMW since it was new or if you just acquired your first one, whether you have one BMW 2002 or many Neue Klasse cars sitting in your garage, whether it is dedicated race car, or concourse queen, or a crusty daily driver, BMW 2002 FAQ is the place for you.
Okay, with the compressor and bracket, condenser and fan, evaporator assembly, receiver-drier, hoses, and wiring installed, it was time to fire it up, then button it up. Similarly, with the project itself complete, it's time to button up this series of articles. As such, this is a long piece that touches on a number of topics.
There's a whole chapter in my a/c book devoted to leak detection, and specifically to the use of nitrogen or other dry inert gas to
With all the major components installed and the hoses made, the next task was wiring the system up. This will be a short one (that's not an electrical joke :^), as in a car like this, the wiring is trivial.
Someone (Conserv, probably) had posted a copy of the Clardy wiring diagram. It is below.
More general, and probably more useful, is the diagram I have in my a/c book:

10/02/2021 Hey Guys,
Wanted to see how many of the East Bay members wanted to pre-meet in a central location before crossing the Bay Bridge. I figured we could meet at Weatherford BMW parking lot (735 Ashby Ave, Berkeley, CA 94710) around 8:15 - 8:30 and then head over as a group to Brisbane around 9:00am.
10/03/2021, 05:00 PM 07:00 PM Let's get a regular meet-up going at the Sunday Lake Washington Cars and Coffee.
Every Sunday, 10am - 12noon
853 Lake Washington Blvd
Seattle, WA 98122
Get there early, the parking lot fills up quickly. Also, please be respectful of the neighbors and families at the park and drive safely.
I am sometimes accused of using an old, smelly internal combustion engine car that leaves a heavier carbon footprint than the Prius, Focus, Tesla, etc etc modem vehicles.
Consider that our cars were produced 50 years ago, more or less, and have been rolling along ever since. I suspect that the NKs and 02s now have a collective carbon footprint that is relatively small in comparison with the vast amount of energy that goes into the production and operation of a modern vehicle line. Does anyone know when BMW stopped putting the weight information on the metal VIN tags, and why?
My '76 tag only shows the VIN. No weight info.
Did the "square lights" and "diving board" bumpers exceed the weight limit of the factory scale?
Hi everyone. I am an avid classic BMW enthusiast but brand new to 2002 and to this community as well. I just recently finished a 4.5-year restoration project of an '87 535is and suddenly find myself a bit lost with all this extra time on hand and no new challenge in the horizon. Hence comes the 2002!
I've spent quite some time prowling various 2002 sites, YouTube clips and reference information. All I can say is I am deeply intrigued by 2002's form and character. If I play my
Time to tear down the Tii engine that will become Conrad's heart. By the looks of it, the Tii engine that lived inside Conrad from sometime in the 1980's had been sitting for quite some time. Upon picking up Conrad from the previous caretaker, the Tii engine (not the original, as that was replaced by the dealer at some point) was sitting on the ground, rejected by an owner at some point in time. No history. No explanation. No attempt at allowing the mechanical injection to live again...unti
This year we shipped Vern over to The Netherlands & spent 3 weeks touring with the BMW Classic CCA. We also attended The Bavaria Tour in Oberammergau Germany.
We picked up Vern outside Rotterdam in The Netherlands. The battery was dead because the shipper left the key in position 1. Long story, greatly shortened, 3.5 hours for an ADAC flatbed, a long cab ride at 200kmh & 1200 Euros later we had a new 69 Euro Varta battery! The rest of our touring Vern performed flawlessly as
I probably should have been updating this as I did it, but will start doing that more from this point forward.
The car I purchased is a 1970 BMW 2002. It's a manual non-sunroof model. At the time of purchase it was running and was fairly complete but being from Portland, OR it did show signs of rust in select areas. From what I could tell at time of purchase there was no rust in the major important areas such as the shock towers, frame rails etc. Here is how she looked when I got he
Fuse Box Wiring Color Code Cardboard Remake
I've designed new artwork for the back of the fuse box. There are a few things to note:
1) When printing, remember to set the print size to "Actual Size". Print to A4 paper.
2) If prompted for password just type: faq
3) Remember to use a suitable cardboard. I used a heat resistant, waterproof 350gsm paper.
4) Use proper safety when using X-Acto knife or other blades.

The objective of this modification was to install an electric radiator fan with variable speed control. Specific design goals were as follows:
· Minimize loss of radiator frontal area
· Mount fan flush with the radiator
· Minimize axial motion of the fan assembly under driving conditions
· Implement high-frequency PWM speed control
· Control fan speed as a function of radiator outlet temperature
